Professor Massimo Filippi, MD, FEAN, FAAN

Professor Massimo Filippi is also Chair of the Neurology and Neurorehabilitation Units, Director of the MS Center, Director of the Neurophysiology Service, and Director of the Neuroimaging Research Unit at IRCCS Scientific Institute San Raffaele, Milan.

Professor Filippi’s research activity has always focused on the definition of the mechanisms leading to progressive accumulation of irreversible physical disability and cognitive impairment in various neurological conditions. He is a member of several national and international scientific societies and boards where he covered or is covering institutional roles. He is the author of over 1460 papers, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology, Associate Editor of Human Brain Mapping, Radiology, and Neurological Sciences, and member of the editorial boards of many international scientific journals. He is very often requested as speaker and/or chairman in national and international neurological congresses.

In 2001, Professor Filippi was awarded the Rita Levi Montalcini Prize for his outstanding contributions to the study of MS. According to the study published in Front Neurol 2022;13:845539, he is the 1st of the top 10 most influential authors in MS research (1945-2021) with 39,896 total citations and 522 publications.

Professor Heinz Wiendl, MD, PhD, FEAN, FAAN

University Hospital of Münster, Münster, Germany

Professor Heinz Wiendl has been the head of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Münster since 2013. His research focuses on inflammatory neurodegeneration, immune regulation, and protection, as well as monitoring MS and its therapy. His achievements have been recognized with 2 Sobek Prizes from the German Society for MS (DMSG) (2004; 2015).

In 2017, Professor Wiendl was appointed Honorary Professor at Sydney Medical School. Since 2021, he has been a visiting professor at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. He is the founder and principal investigator of the Body and Brain Institute Münster, a prestigious research building funded by the German Federal Ministry.
