Sleep disorders are a major source of morbidity for demented patients and contribute significantly to caregiver distress. Geriatric psychiatrist Dr. Rita Hargrave explains that recent studies suggest that specific types of sleep disorders are diagnostic and prognostic indicators for the course of dementia. The identification and effective treatment of sleep disorders in the setting of dementia can improve patient care and may reduce caregiver burden. Series: “UC Grand Rounds”
