While improvements in safety and emergency response times have increased TBI survival, this has heightened the need for reliable methods to identify patients at risk of developing secondary pathologies. Biomarkers have proven useful for the diagnosis of many pathological conditions including cancer, heart failure, infection, and genetic disorders.
