    A diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Prof. Grossberg holds membership in several professional societies, and is a former president of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and past president of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA). Prof. Grossberg founded the first geriatric psychiatry programme in Missouri, as well as the first Alzheimer’s Disease Community Brain Bank. Among his many awards, Prof. Grossberg received the Missouri Adult Day Care Association Outstanding Physician Award for supporting programmes that allow seniors to live independently or at home with their families.

    Prof. Grossberg has published extensively. He currently serves as medical editor of CNS Senior Care and section editor for geriatric psychiatry of Current Geriatric Reports and Current Psychiatry. He is on the editorial boards of Demencia Hoy, International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Journal of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease and the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association. He is a consultant in the development of protocols for central nervous system disorders in older patients, and is involved in a variety of basic as well as clinical research projects in the area of dementia, with a focus on behavioural disturbances in Alzheimer’s disease.

Ms Miller is author of My Life Rearranged, documenting the patient and care partner journey from prediagnosis to passing, based on her own experiences as an Alzheimer’s caregiver for her husband for more than a decade. A passionate and proactive voice for the Alzheimer’s caregiver community, Ms Miller lectures throughout the USA, and is an ambassador for The Caregiver Connection.

    New study reveals Alzheimer’s disease progresses in two distinct phases

    A new study published in Nature Neuroscience1 has uncovered significant insights into the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), providing a new understanding of how the disease damages the brain. Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and led by researchers from the Allen Institute, this study used advanced brain mapping and genetic tools to explore the cellular-level changes that occur throughout AD. The findings reveal that Alzheimer's progresses in two distinct phases, offering potential avenues for early diagnosis and treatment strategies.

    Insights from Prof. Dr Murat Emre: A career in neurology and the future of neurodegenerative disorders

    In this next Q&A we welcome Prof. Dr Murat Emre. Prof. Emre studied medicine in Istanbul University and specialized in neurology in Zurich University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. After his training he did fellowships in movement disorders in Queen Square Hospital London and in behavioural neurology in Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, he also worked in clinical research to develop new drugs for Parkinson's disease and Azlheimer disease.
